Fast Flyin Fireball Tops FQHRA Stallion Stakes Derby Trials

HIALEAH, FL—DECEMBER 28, 2015—Coming off a win at Will Rogers Downs last month, Fast Flyin Fireball raced to the top qualifying time for the $100,580 FQHRA Stallion Stakes Derby Monday afternoon at Hialeah Park.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from the 35 head who participated in three trials, will return to the South Florida racetrack on Sunday, January 17th and vie for a winners' purse worth $42,243. Trial entrants were made up of foals sired by participating stallions in the FQHRA Stallion Service Auction in 2012.

Fast Flyin Fireball, ridden by Benito Baca for trainer Donnie Strickland and owner Adina Baker, edged Foust by a nose in the middle heat and earned fastest qualifier honors with a time of :18.168 seconds for 350 yards.

The gelded son of This Flights For You won three of eight starts this season and has earned $23,073. Gene Cox bred Fast Flyin Fireball in Oklahoma from the Strawfly Special mare Biscuits N Buns.

West Coast invader Foust entered the trials off a sixth-place finish in the $48,600 John Deere California Juvenile Challenge on August 22, posted the second fastest clocking of :18.173 seconds. He was also sixth in the $25,000 Ed Burke Juvenile Invitational last June.

Jesus Gonzalez, Jr. conditions the gray for owner San Ignacio QH, Inc. Bred by Paul Jones, from the Royal Quick Dash mare Summertime Quickie, Foust six previous starts were all at Los Alamitos Race Course.
