Color Stone And Takin Quick Cash Win FQHRA Co-Features

HIALEAH, FL—DECEMBER 30, 2011— Color Stone, trained by Manuel Mata and ridden by Victor Olivo for owner Annibal Hernandez, took command in the final yards and drew off for an impressive two-length victory over Hatch A Plan and Mr Corona Blue in the $95,210 FQHRA Stallion Stakes Futurity, the first of two FQHRA co-features on the Friday afternoon card.

HIALEAH, FL—DECEMBER 30, 2011— Color Stone, trained by Manuel Mata and ridden by Victor Olivo for owner Annibal Hernandez, took command in the final yards and drew off for an impressive two-length victory over Hatch A Plan and Mr Corona Blue in the $95,210 FQHRA Stallion Stakes Futurity, the first of two FQHRA co-features on the Friday afternoon card.
The futurity winner, a two-year-old gray colt by Sc Chiseled in Stone--Color Tip, by Hot Colours, was bred in Oklahoma by Hafner Grain and Livestock, Inc. Color Stone, who won his trial for the race December 16, is now a perfect 2-for-2 at Hialeah Park and 2-for-3 at the race distance of 350 yards. He recorded a final time of 17.725 seconds while earning first-place money of $57,126 for his connections.
Hatch A Plan, by first crop sire Identity Theft, races for Teddy Abrams, Jr. and is trained by Donnie Strickland. Ted G. Abrams bred the brown filly in Texas from the Thoroughbred Duck Dance mare Miss Hatch. She earned $19,042.
Nancy McCoy's homebred Mr Corona Blue is trained by Charlton Hunt and ridden by Brian Theriot. The Jess Louisiana Blue gelding is out of the Corona Cartel mare Corona With Ice. He earned $9,521 for the effort.
Upgraded, Bet To Gamble., Ttt Shakem Lajolla, Whos Joe Papa, Mr Kentrell and Come On Yall completed the field. Miss Blue Two was scratched.
FQHRA Stallion Stakes Derby
One race later, Karl Smith’s Takin Quick Cash, trained by Ray Robbins and ridden by Donnell Blake, overcame a bit of an awkward break and staged a furious rally to beat Oh Cooper Go by a head in the $54,570 FQHRA Stallion Stakes Derby.

Rob and Jill Waters' Oh Cooper Go earned $10,914 for second. The Apollo (TB) gelding, out of Oh Strawfly Go by Strawfly Special, is trained by Guillermo Valdivia and ridden by Alex Baldillez, Jr. Rex and Sue Cox bred Oh Cooper Go in Oklahoma.
Mr Speed Wrench, by second crop sire First Down Straw, finished third for owner Z.V. Oropallo. The Bradley Bolen trainee, ridden by Cody Wainscott, earned $5,457. Flying Fisch Farm, Inc. bred him in Florida from the Mr Eye Opener mare Eyes Like Rapid.
Completing the field were Tommy Dashia, Stole N Loot, Cat Vision, Visions Beauty, Howdy O Toole, Justajackblackandice and Sunrise Calboy.
The total mutuel handle for the ninth day of the 2011-2012 Quarter Horse season was $197,130 with the on-track crowd estimated at 2,000.
Live racing resumes at Hialeah Park on Saturday December 31 with a nine-race program featuring the $100,000-added Hialeah Derby for three-year-olds.
This historic facility now operates on a five-days-a-week schedule, with live racing Friday through Sunday and simulcast wagering on all the top tracks in America available Wednesday and Thursday.
