FTBOA Gets Quarter Horse Permit

SB 788 which passed last year allowed the QH permit that OBS has had for several years to be converted to a non profit TB permit by FTBO&B with limited racing. OBS decided they did not want to convert their permit so FTBO&B applied for their own permit and has received it. They will have to run their races at OBS as stated in SB 788 from 2009. This does not mean that all QH permits can be converted to TB permits. This is a specific case outlined in SB 788 which is now a part of SB622 which was passed in the 2010 session and contains the Seminole Indian Compact along with the language from SB 788 from 2009. All other QH permits are not allowed to be converted to TB permits. We still have a QH permit at OBS even if FTBO&B converts their new QH permit.
A full report on the 2010 legislative session will be given as soon as we meet with DBPR for some clarifications.
Things look good for Florida . We have a least 2 tracks with QH permits that get Class III slots and the tax decrease from 50% to 35%. Gulfstream, the 3rd track with a QH permit that is eligible for Class III slots, can have night racing if the activate their QH permit and run 160 races. We will have a clarification on the benefits the tracks in Marion County and the tracks in the northern counties will be eligible for as soon as we meet with DBPR in the next week or so. All tracks will have to run 20/30/30/40 days in 2010/2011/2012/2013 and beyond.
