A big hand of applause was given in appreciation of the financial and technical support that AQHA has provided FQHRA since 2006. Appreciation was also given for support from media publications such at AQHRJournal, Track, StallioneSearch, SpeedHorse, Southern Horse Connection and many others. Other state organizations including OQHRA with Debbie Schauf and LQHB&O with Lavern Perry were recognized for their time and support as they gave their great knowledge and expertise without hesitation.
Other important aspects of the meeting included the results of the 2010 Florida legislative session given by our lobbyist Herb Sheheane and myself which resulted in:
1. Hialeah Race Park, Pompano Park, Gulfstream Park are all tracks with QH permits and they all qualify for 2000 Class III slot machines. The state take out on these machines was reduced from 50% to 35%.
2. QH permitted tracks have to race a minimum of 20 days in the 2010/2011 fiscal year, 30 day in 2011/2012 & 2012/2013 and 40 days thereafter with a minimum of 8 races per day.
3. The Division of Pari-Mutuel Wagering clarified that since the legislature had seen fit to name FQHRA in the Florida statues in the language "a track must have a written, signed agreement with FQHRA or the group representing the majority of the horsemen at the track" that they would consider FQHRA to be the group representing the horsemen at QH permitted tracks unless another group provided substantial evidence that they were indeed the new group leading Florida QH racing.
Will Fisch, CPA gave the treasurer's report. FQHRA made over $70,000 on the 2010 SSA thanks to all the stallion service donators and the work of Randy Henry and Bill McKibbin, our Vice President. AQHA gave $20,000 to our cause for 2010 and has between $20,000 - $40,000 each year since 2006. All bills are paid. We discussed the added money for the SSA Futurity to be held in 2010 for the 2007 SSA. Will Fisch announced he will not seek or accept the Treasurer's position at the October 2010 FQHRA meeting. He has put in countless hours since 2006.
FQHRA congratulates all the award winners. The $21,152 to Joe Carter is only the beginning. There were 19 accredited Florida breds at the Hialeah meet and 13 different owners/breeders won money. It will only get better. The accredited Florida bred program is designed to spread the money to everyone that participates in the program as demonstrated with every accredited Florida bred at Hialeah winning Florida bred money. It is also designed to keep and maintain a high quality and diverse gene pool of sound, fast horses that last and that their owners and breeders can make money with either at the sale or track.
FQHRA appreciates your patience and support as we work to bring quality QH racing to Florida and to become one of the industry leaders. Thanks to all of our Members and Board Members for their positive attitude and good work. We will keep you posted as new developments with the different tracks develop.
