June Board Meeting -- Posted: 6 . 29 . 2006
A FQHRA board meeting was held in Jasper, Florida on June 17, 2006. Glen Richards gave an update on the new track in Jasper. A 1200 acres parcel next to his jai-lai building recently became available and was purchased by him and another invester. The track will now be located at this new site, which will allow easier access from I-75 and I-10, along will 80 5-acre ranchettes scheduled to be built around the track. Glen plans to have a 3 to 4 month meet in the fall/winter of 2007. He has had continued interest from Budweiser, etc as sponsors for futurities and derbies.
The board organized the FQHRA Stallion Service Auction and its Futurity and Derby guidelines. The Stallion catalogue will be printed by the same printer that produces the Heritage Place catalogue. Great news mare owners - The board plans to have around 150 quality stallions in the 2007 auction!
The board defined a "Florida Bred". For the next three years a Florida Bred is any horse foaled in Florida at any time and any horse by a stallion standing in Florida at the time of service. The owners of these horses must be members in good standing with the AQHA an FQHRA.

Great Horses from Florida Racing History -- Posted: 4 . 24 . 2006
Some great horses have come out of Florida.
Ronas Ryon: 1986 Champion 2-year-old, 1986 Champion 2-year-old Stallion was bred in Florida. His primary jockey, Jerry Nicodemus said, “He’s as tough a horse as I’ve ever ridden.” A great runner and a leading sire and broodmare sire. The Signature: raced at Pompano Park in the 1980’s and went on to be a national leading sire. Merganser: 1988 World Champion, 1988 Champion 2-year-old Colt, 1988 Champion 2-year-old. He was bred by John Shaw of Jacksonville and won over $1.3 million dollars. Elans Special: was a Florida bred of the 1980’s and won the All American Futurity just like Ronas Ryon and Merganser. Go Dick Go: was the first horse east of the Mississippi to win the All American and his blood still runs through some of the great broodmares and sires of today. Florida is rich in tradition of American Quarter Horses who are among the fastest and best in the world. |
